Beautiful Games is a game review format where I look solely at a games visual design and aesthetics. Game-play, mechanics, story etc. are secondary to these reviews. Basically, to be featured here, it doesn’t matter, if it’s a good game, as look as it looks marvellous. You’ll see many beautiful images, some videos and few words.

As I’m looking back a few years as well as at current releases, most of these games will be 2D with vector, pixel or illustrated artwork. 3D games just don’t age well.

Click through the reviews below and enjoy.

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #10 | dream daddy

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator is a game where you play as a Dad and your goal is to meet and romance other hot Dads. The gameplay may not be that hot (fun dialogues!), but the illustrations are!

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #9 | Creature in the Well

Creature in the well with its serene atmosphere and desert setting reminds me of journey and the robot you control is indeed on a journey of exploration. But there’s more to it than getting from a to b and the game mechanics are refreshing. More than that, however, the visual style is stunning.

Beautful Games # 8 | Hundred Days

Hundred days is an isometric wine making simulator made in the Unity Game Engine. It tells the story of a London office worker inheriting a French vineyard and learning the wine making trade. Apart from the short story it is largely an economic management simulation with some tetris elements.

Beautiful Games #7 | Absolute Drift

I’m neither good at racing games nor controller-based steering but Absolute Drift: Zen edition, a racing game about becoming a master at the art of drifting just looked too good to pass on… so enjoy some nice peaceful screenshots and a funny video of me utterly failing to drift and go left instead of right.

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #6 | THE SILENT AGE

The Silent Age is a post-apocalyptic point & click puzzle adventure game. It is immaculately illustrated in vector style.

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #5 | ARMELLO

Armello is a turn-based strategy board game, a type of game I don’t usually play. However, this time the design appealed to me so much, that I decided to try it (years back). I’d say it was worth it for me, not for the gameplay, but the beautiful illustrated world.

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #4 | FELIX THE REAPER

Felix the Reaper is a romantic game about love, death and dancing. It’s characters are beautifully illustrated and wonderfully animated.

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #3 | VOID BASTARDS

Void Bastards is a space salvage shooter in the looks of a comic book. The experience is a mix of FTL and first-person shooter. It’s not the first game to choose the comic style, but it’s one of the few that manage it consistently.

The menu background is a comic cover, all the cut scenes are animated comic panels that tell the story. Most of all the colour palette is distinctly comic, with

BEAUTIFUL GAMES #2 | The Witness

The selection for this one was hard. The Witness is such a beautiful game, its low-poly 3D-style is tuned down to a point and basically, each scene is a painting. Also, the details are finely arranged, the lighting is perfect and just look at these reflections …

Beautiful Games #1 | FAR: Lone Sails

FAR: Lone Sails by Swiss developers Okomotive is a peaceful, quiet journey through a mostly desolate landscape.

The painted looks and open spaces of the world, combined with a toned-down colour palette make this  melancholy, but also very beautiful to look at.
