Void Bastards is a space salvage shooter in the looks of a comic book. The experience is a mix of FTL and first-person shooter. It’s not the first game to choose the comic style, but it’s one of the few that manage it consistently.

The menu background is a comic cover, all the cut scenes are animated comic panels that tell the story. Inventory, interfaces and buttons fuel the comic feeling and even the audio effects are supplemented with visual inserts (“Boom!”).

Death is just the beginning. In Void Bastards, when your character dies, he’s replaced by a new (un)willing prisoner to send out to ‘derelict’ ships. Each of these have different random traits and each come with different equipment. Death and resurrection also comes with comic-typical humour in tow.

The interface elements are amazingly detailed. Even the ship’s layouts seen in the map, which are obviously randomly generated, don’t feel that way.

Here’s a bit of gameplay and some more beautifuls views from random missions.
