After a night of waking again and again to the roaring river next me, I start off early. The sunrise on Mont Blanc greets me on the way down the valley.

Detouring Courmayeur, I hike up to the Lago Combal, a fascinating flat lake full of reeds and the clearest water I’ve seen.

From here the path leads up to the Col de la Seigne and into France. The valley of glaciers beyond only has two small glaciers left as far as I can see, but they still suffice to feed a lively stream at the bottom.

Going up the steep trail to the Col des Fours, I spot the first cloud and just before the pass, it even starts raining very lightly for about 20 minutes. The Col du Bonhomme is my last stop, before going down again into the next valley.

I end a long day at the shore of the Bon Nant river.
