I start out around eight and the first couple of kilometres are uneventful. The weather is better than expected with the sun even showing its face now and then.

In Marcumere, a military garrison town, I quickly stop for snacks and then continue north-east. The hills West of Sassari are just that – a series of up and down sections, interspersed with flat stretches. Without any wind to speak of, going is smooth.

What isn’t going smooth is my search for a good lunch spot. There’s none of the usual rest stop areas anywhere and the archaeological sites I try to stop at are either closed off or besieged by dogs.

So I continue on, until I enter the olive groves just south of Sassari. Here I finally find a nice and quiet place to rest.

Just after I start on the last few kilometres, a light drizzle starts. Not enough to get out the rain clothes, but enough to be slightly annoying. In Sassari, I make a quick round by bike, before checking in to my room. Then I explore the cities little alleyways, try out various gelaterias and eat some really good pizza. All the while it rains.
