After my forced break and with my tooth all fixed up, I take the train back to Switzerland. I will miss out on a few passes, namely the Col de Mont-Cenis, the Col d’Iseran and both the Petit and Grand Saint Bernard. But going back all the way would have taken too long and starting from Lausanne, I can quickly continue on my original track.

I arrive just before noon and immediately start my ride eastwards along the coast of the Lac Leman. The view is beautiful, albeit a bit hazy, as I ride through the vineyards on the northern shore of the lake. At the easternmost tip of the lake in Villeneuve I take my lunch break with a nice view on to the Chateau de Chillon.

From here I follow the Rhone river upstream, passing the UCI world cycling centre. With a good tailwind, I make good pace and I soon realise that I will easily reach Martigny, my minimum goal for the day. So I continue up the river valley towards Sion with its castle visible from afar and since the wind is still on my back I only stop just after Sierre. 130 km in half a day, mostly flat but really with just over 1000 m elevation went by quickly.
