This year, I’m going to Fontainebleau to experience the world famous bouldering forest. To make the trip even better, I decided to cycle the 500km.

My heavily packed bike ready to go.

Day 1 saw me packing and preparing all morning, so I got off to a late start. The weather looked rainy, but for the first few hours, the only time I got really wet was from the corn sprinklers next to the road towards Colmar.

Turning into the Munster valley and up the Vosges mountains, I managed to avoid most of the bigger roads and rode up a forest road to the Col de la Schlucht. Up there it did finally start raining, but on the way down it was good to wear rain gear anyway, because of the cool temperatures (10° C).

The way down to Gérardmer went quickly and I pitched my tent on a campground near the lake around 19.30h. 92 km and 1300m ascent was quite okay for half a day’s riding.
