The morning starts with sunshine and so I decide to ride up to the Nevis Range, site of the legendary Downhill world cup track, and hire an Enduro bike for the day.

The weather doesn’t hold long. Even on the four miles to the Range I catch some rain. Once there, I’m soon set up with a Trek Remedy from Nevis Cycles and commence riding the witches’ trails in the lower part of the Range.

The gondola up to the downhill and other long tracks isn’t running as the winds are too strong up there.

Still, the trails in the forest are well sheltered and so I’m less affected by the torrential downpour that switches on and off with sunshine all day.

Around 3 p.m., after ten runs on five different trails, including the 2007 XCO world championship track, I call it a day. I’m pretty exhausted, but it was a nice change of pace.

This is normally a trail, but not after a few days of heavy rain

I head back on the road and ride down 45 km to Glencoe to camp for the night.
