Blue skies! The next two days I get picture-book views on the city from it’s hill parks. It’s hot in the sun, but the cities high buildings offer much shade and the many parks fresh air.

On Sunday I walk up Montjuïc park and have a great view on the city and its port. Later I go to the Design museum and experience the fantastic ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition as well as looking at some great student graphic design work.

Monday morning I go to the Joan Miró Foundation and afterwards over to Park Güell to look at some of Gaudi’s fantastic creations.

The independency demonstrations on Monday, Catalonia’s national holiday, are huge. Almost a million people take part and special buses from all over the region have brought in people.

It’s basically like a huge street festival with some main stages, but also with local bands playing in their quarter. El Born is an excavation site below the roof of a 19th century market. Very nicely presents the city’s history since the end of the 17th century.

Tuesday morning is reserved for a last look at the city, some shopping and packing my things.
