The morning starts with another hasty retreat as someone parks his car about a hundred meters above my campspot.

Although today is fine and sunny, I decide to keep to the plains and visit the Jura mountains some other time. All of the small villages and towns along my route seem to consist solely of vinyards of various sizes and each town is either the heart of a wine region or its capital.

In Mouchard I find an excellent bakery which has an amazing chocolate-almond croissant. Sadly (or luckily?) I only eat it half an hour’s ride later or else I would have gone back to get more. After a good late breakfast in the sun I continue a short stretch along the Loue river before I cross to the Doubs riverbank. From here I ride along the European cycling route #6 through Besançon and a further 55 km beyond until I find a nice campspot on a small island near some river rapids. It’s interesting to note that I met about ten travelling cyclists here while on my whole tour I had only met four.
