After a less than restful night, du to an all night rave in the abandoned house across the river, I start off a bit groggy along the French-Swiss border, probably crossing and leaving Switzerland more often than I have before on my life.

The weather is fine and the gravel roads and trails pretty nice – except for that one steep rocky bit of hiking trail with stairs.

I arrive at the Doubs river in St. Ursanne, a picturesque town. From here I ride along the river, the up the dividing mountain range between two of the long loops of the river.

Down by the Doubs again, I follow the trail along the riverbank, until it gets steeper and the valley turns into a gorge. The trail now winds up onto the plateau above and just before I reach the top, the first rain arrives – brief, but I’m glad that I’m back on a road pretty quickly.

The late afternoon is interspersed with rain showers and thunderstorms as I ride down southwest on small roads. I seek shelter in a bus stop for the worst downpour.

After Morteau I’m back on the GTV and ride over quiet meadows.
