I start off a little later than usual and the first few kilometers uphill drag on slow. My first planned stop is the Lago Passante, but its waters are so far below the road that I decide to ride on. Shortly after, I do stop for a late breakfast at a local “Science Park”. Unfortunately, it is closed, perhaps even abandoned. The main building still has power and an alarm rings continuously. A slightly apocalyptic feeling. I do hope they reopen in the local holiday season, as the building looks interesting and Google reviews are positive.

From here I ride on to the next lake: the Lago Ampollino. It is more accessible and I stop for a quick bath, before continuing on and finding a short dedicated bike path along the shore in the next village. Onwards to San Giovanni in Fiore, a larger town, where I stop for groceries and ice cream. The town is narrow nad very busy and I’m glad when I ride out again into nature. Up along the Fiume Neto river, through a serenely quiet valley, before I finally end up at the Lago di Cecita.
